Synopsis:
Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.Long ago, Lore Perseus fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths.
Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods.
The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore's decision to bind her fate to Athena's and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost--and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees. Character Dynamics and Developments:
The novel excels in laying the groundwork for a rich tapestry of characters, primarily Lore, Castor, and the supporting crew. Lore is crafted as a strong-willed protagonist who embodies resilience and determination. Her transition from a haunted survivor to a fierce contender reflects her internal turmoil and burgeoning strength. Her relationship with Castor is layered, rooted in childhood memories yet complicated by the shadows of their pasts. Their bond transforms throughout the story, steeped in unresolved feelings and shared histories. Castor, once the pitiful boy battling leukemia, emerges as a resilient ally endowed with divine gifts. Miles, a quirky and supportive friend, adds additional depth, while Iro and Van contribute vital layers to their group dynamic. Together, this ensemble faces relentless trials, strengthening their friendships amidst chaos. The friendships and love blossoming amidst adversities serve as a poignant reminder of hope in dark times. (New Book Recommendation)Themes:

This was a great read, and it is one of my all-time favorite books I've read so far. It's an engrossing fantasy novel incorporating Greek mythology and modern-day New York City. The concept of the mortals becoming the gods, fighting to obtain their powers, is exhilarating and engaging. I love the merging of Greek mythology with a modern twist, so that it's simultaneously timeless and fresh.Work Cited:
